Later in the day, Rich took Cisco outside for some romping around.
Gracie ventured outside, too:
It’s been so cold, even Gracie has transformed into “Winter Cat.” She actually let Rich cover her with a blanket last night:
Got down to 22 overnight. We had ice on the inside of the windows, and these indoor icicles freezing the windows shut:
The WordPress snow is still falling as I type, so it looks like Cisco and Gracie are walking in falling snow, lol. You’ve mentioned snow is common in the winter where you live. Aren’t below freezing temperatures also normal too, or do you usually see warmer afternoons where the snow melts, at least partially?
Flying over the northern Midwest and the Rockies, it was both beautiful and chilling to see the ground blanketed in snow. I also noted the ice crystals forming on the windows of the jet. I didn’t bring my down coat with me during my trip east (too bulky), but I really wished for heavier outerwear this time around. It was mild and rainy on Christmas Day, then suddenly—winter!

Once or twice a year we’ll get a hard freeze that lasts for days. We have to leave a faucet dripping all night to keep the pipes from freezing. But usually it does warm up enough to melt it within a couple of days.
Maybe you could keep a heavy coat there for trips out east…

That’s a good idea, keeping a coat out there. IF my daughter will allow another coat in her bulging closet. Space is always a premium in New York apartments.
I also suddenly thought, reading your reply, that I should ship my winter gear to NY a week before flying out there. I don’t need that stuff here 90% of the time and I could avoid having to bring a bigger suitcase!

That is a good idea, but somewhat expensive.
When I used to work at the architecture firm, for travelers, we’d ship separately items that the TSA would otherwise confiscate, like Xacto blades, for instance. It was just easier that way.

The one time my Dad flew to Michigan (before moving up there permanently) we mailed all his medication up there – a boxful! – just so TSA would have any problems with it (Have since learned that as long as it’s in the bottle they don’t care … but didn’t know then). That worked fine – except when he almost got trapped in Chicago because of a snow storm.

It does save a lot of hassle. I have a pothead friend who, back in the day (late 70s-early 80s), once shipped a pound of Puna Butter back from Hawaii via FedEx.

Those are some action shots of Cisco! I made a deep nest in our camping equipment (which is suspended, hammock-like) in the garage for Jinx, with the down sleeping bags surrounding the nest cup. Needless to say, she liked it! Yin Yang is still in the guest room…

Hee hee… Rich does a good job of keeping him running around so he doesn’t get chilled.

Kim. There are goddamn icicles inside your house. WTF.
I wanna romp with Cisco too! That looks so fun, despite that unholy temperature. Love Gracie’s little paw flick, too.
If it helps with the chill, just think of the 41C (105F) I’m going to be sweltering through tomorrow.

You never know until they do. Gracie freaked the first time she encountered deep snow. Panicked and ran off to a tree where she stayed until nightfall.

What a treat, you guys have such glorious property. And I’ve missed seeing your personal posts, they’re always so cool. When I take Ives out for a walk I photograph the big double-paw prints. It’s a nice lesson in cat ID prints, which I’m sure you see a lot of out where you are. All sorts of critters roam your property, I bet!

Oh yeah, after a snow, I see all sorts of prints. Rabbit, birds, turkey, mice, deer, dogs and big cats.
