If a calico female (OrangeX, BlackX) breeds with an orange guy (OrangeX, Y), then half their kittens will be orange independent of sex because half of her x-chromosomes carry orange (Girls: oX,oX and boys: oX,Y both orange). – The other half who get her blackX will be black if they are boys (bX,Y) and calico (bX, oX) if they are girls.

In people XXY usually causes sterility, some breast development, small shoulders, wide hips, etc. And I think those cats are sterile too — but whether they show “feminized” traits — kind of hard to tell under all that fur!

But I was thinking the other day that I’ve never known a female orange or orange and white cat over all these years — they were always males. And I’ve known a lot of felines over the years!!
