This lady manages a Dive Resort in Indonesia, and her cat has had to be able to swim. Neo goes for a swim every two days in the ocean. Afterwards she gives him a hot bath with shampoo to wash off the salt water. He never complains, never tries to scratch, never tries to run away.

When you get angry emails from Smokey, you will know that I’ve tried this. Well, we’re 600 miles from the nearest seawater, so it’ll just be in the bathtub.
Is your health insurance paid up?
Yes … but just in case I’ll let my wife try it first.
Tiger and Jaguars swim, so I guess “why not a house cat?” It’s training I guess. I’ve seen people driving around with a cat lounging on the dashboard of their car. Our cats … well, we have to strap the carriers in with seatbelts to keep them in there, lol.
I’m always amazed at how loud they can yell when properly motivated.
I had two cats that got out one rainy, muddy day. By the time I got them back inside, they were dropping little mudballs everywhere they went. So they both had to get baths. The first one, TS Eliot, you’d have thought I was skinning him alive. I’m surprised the neighbors didn’t call the cops. The other one, Kabuki, kinda got into it. Once he realized the water was nice and warm, only 4 inches deep, smelled like lavender, and that he wasn’t drowning, he enjoyed himself.
Hahaha. Love those fangs!
Such a sweet, wet kitty!
I’ve never doubted that cats could swim, but one that actually enjoyed it?
Like GOM my cats would have taken my head off if I picked them up and began walking towards a body of water. On the few times I gave them a bath, I’d have to keep them in the carrier until the tub was filled and everything was prepped. They’d run otherwise and cram themselves into some inaccessible crack behind the fridge or a shelf. Then the looks they gave me—oh, the evil looks….
“YOU!!! You did this to me!”
Had a cat who would wait til I got into the tub, and then come and sit on my tummy in the water.
Totally happy about it.
In fact, it could be difficult to get out if he had settled.
(You don’t want to upset a cat who is sitting on your nekkid skin like that!)
Oh dear. You must have gotten pretty wrinkly sometimes!
That’s one amazingly tolerant cat!
Very chill and mellow. Must be the islands.
Some cats are great swimmers. I guess the question is, does he really want to? Easy way to find out, put him down at the water’s edge and see if he goes in. You drag him out to the deep water and of course he’s going to swim, if it’s between that and drowning, LOL
Well, maybe he doesn’t WANT to, but he certainly doesn’t seem to mind being taken out, either. You’d think he’d learn pretty quickly what was happening and shred that lady’s wetsuit. I bet he enjoys the attention, and the warm bath and massage afterwards.
My black cat, Stringbean, climbed into the kiddy pool I got for our dogs. He walked around in the water up to his “knees” and just looked at stuff. It was so funny to watch.
Go figure. All cats are weird, the only difference is in what way.
