Got a few pics of a cotton-tailed bunny exploring around outside the window after a recent snowstorm:
Also got some shots of a deer enjoying a nice afternoon rest in the shade. I love how it looks like he’s eating the sunshiney flower behind him in the second one.
Late one afternoon, I was working at the computer when I kept hearing these snorting sounds. From the back window, I could see two deer, in full alarm mode, snorting and stamping their front hooves, especially the one on the left. They must have scented a predator, but couldn’t locate it. If you turn up your volume, you should be able to hear him snorting.

My internet connection keeps crashing every time I try to watch the video (gah, Comcast!), but from what little I’ve seen, I’m wondering if there’s a dog or coyote in the woods nearby. I understand the bears are awake and hungry now too. Have you seen any around your house, dog forbid?
Luckily, there are no bears in our mountains. Settlers killed them all years ago. Gotta go up to the Sierras for bears. But we do have mountain lions (the deer are their main prey), and bobcats, and coyotes.
I wish I had some cute animals like this prowling around my place. I’ve mainly got wild pigs, although there was a juvenile cassowary wandering around the other day (when I didn’t have a camera nearby of course)
Oh, we have wild pigs here. It’s a big problem. A nearby Indian reservation got the bright idea to put a few on their land for hunting, never thinking they’d, I dunno, wander about at will. Now they’ve adapted quite well to our landscape. They cause car crashes at night, and tear up the topsoil rooting for acorns, destroying young saplings and taking a food source away from other native animals.
What a magnificent place you live! I love all the pics and the vid came out very wel, too!
Thanks! Yours is pretty amazing, too!
Wow…you’re very fortunate to live in such a fantastic place!
We really are. I’m constantly amazed I get to live and work up here.
